First Open Days for UTC Cambridge

Exciting hands-on science activities, presentations and lots more will be on offer at the first open days for Cambridge’s new University Technical College.

Nearly 200 prospective students have registered for the open days on the 22 and 23 November – showcasing the new specialist science college which will open in September 2014.

The state-funded UTC will focus on teaching biomedical and environmental science and technology to students aged from 14 to 19 years of age, with an innovative learning programme designed to give them a head start in employment and higher education.

Sponsored by Cambridge Regional College and Cambridge University Health Partners, the UTC is backed by leading employers including Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Napp Pharmaceuticals and the Medical Research Council.

Acting principal Melanie Radford will deliver a series of presentations about the new college, followed by question and answer sessions, and artist’s impressions of the new £10 million college will be on display.

Visitors will also be able to meet UTC partners at the event - to be held in the Deakin Centre at Addenbrooke’s Hospital – and have a go at science activities

The college, in Robinson Way, Cambridge, will take students from a 25-mile radius of Cambridge, offering GCSEs, A levels and BTEC qualifications alongside special Challenge Projects.
