UTC students invited to tour £10m building

UTC Cambridge students will be the first to look around the college’s new £10 million building in a special day of site visits.

Nearly 100 applicants and their families have booked places on the invitation-only tours, which take place on 21 June.

Although building work is still going on, the prospective students will be able to check out the college’s super-lab areas, lecture theatre, classrooms and café at the site in Robinson Way, Cambridge.

The UTC, which will specialise in teaching biomedical and environmental science and technology, will open in September this year. It will teach students aged from 14 to 19, with entry in Years 10 and 12.

Principal Melanie Radford said she was delighted so many students and their families were taking advantage of the site visits.

“We have invited all applicants to have a look round the building and have had so many responses that we have had to put on extra tours,” she said.

“Our students can bring their families and a friend and be among the very first to look at our £10 million building. We still have spaces left, but they’re going quickly – so I’d urge anyone with an invitation to book as soon as possible.”

The college, backed by Cambridge University Health Partners and Cambridge Regional College, is supported by leading organisations including Napp Pharmaceuticals, the Babraham Institute and the Medical Research Council, who will work with students on special Challenge Projects.

The UTC is still open for students who want to start this September. For information on how to apply, see www.utccambridge.co.uk.
