Interviewing starts for student applicants

11 December 2013

Interviews start this week for applicants to the University Technical College Cambridge, due to open in September 2014.

The UTC, which will specialise in teaching biomedical and environmental science and technology, is now taking applications from students who will join the college in Years 10 and 12.

Acting principal Melanie Radford will start the interviewing process on Friday, 13 December – meeting students who want to be among the first to join the innovative new college.

The state-funded UTC will teach students aged from 14 to 19 years old, delivering an education supported by leading employers in the biomedical and environmental science sectors.

Applications from across the region have been coming in after the success of the UTC’s open days last month, when more than 500 people attended to find out more about the college.

Sponsored by Cambridge Regional College and Cambridge University Health Partners, the UTC is backed by leading employers including Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Napp Pharmaceuticals and the Medical Research Council.

The college, in Robinson Way, Cambridge, will take students from a 25-mile radius of Cambridge, offering GCSEs, A levels and BTEC qualifications alongside special employer-led Challenge Projects.
