Key Stage 4 Curriculum

In Years 10 and 11, students continue a balanced education, evolving their learning skills and enabling them to succeed in whichever path they choose.

It is critical that their core educational ability and interests are developed and at UTCC the GCSE programme is stimulating and fast-paced. As the day is longer than a traditional school day, more can be achieved. Whilst opportunities for technical, computing and scientific studies abound, students all continue with English, Maths and Humanities and are encouraged to continue with learning Spanish.

The student experience at Cambridge UTC is notably different with more freedom and opportunity but also the need for more commitment and maturity than in a traditional school. You will learn through lessons and seminars, project work and hands-on activities as well as having endless opportunities to pursue your particular interests and extend your learning.

Our students are taught in small classes and in most subjects they break up into even smaller groups to work on specific topics. Whilst some learning is in a traditional class-room setting, there are also seminars and time to work independently in the quiet spaces provided and of course you can use any of the computing banks across the college to research and study.

Challenge Projects enhance learning opportunities and offer unparalleled work-place experience in leading technology companies. These form an integral part of the college timetable and bring science to life. Challenge Projects can lead to the award of Professional qualifications such as The Duke of York Award for Technical education and Certificate of Enterprise and Employability, which are well regarded by future employers.

The necessity for young people to consider and enjoy life is not neglected, with learning time also dedicated to creativity, physical education, moral and spiritual development, and the development of personal and business skills.

Students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of physical activities including hockey and football. We also encourage students to take part in Big Question Days, where a specific social, moral, or spiritual topic is covered.

Enrichment options take place every day, which give our students a well-deserved break from their studies as they take on creative, sporting and social challenges of their choice. We believe that this helps students to build strong practical and social socials.
